Haha, I'm redneck as dammit, as they say down where I'm from. I've got family vaguely related (as country-folk are) to both Stanley and Bill Monroe, and both are revered among my people. I come from a long line of BG folks, and I actually wrote a dissertation (Jesus Christ) on the incidence of "perfect pitch" in Appalachian oral music traditions, which meant loads of stories about pig roasts and farm fires and haywagon concerts and drunken fishtfights and the like. I feel like bluegrass has kind of been largely ignored even despite the flash-pan renaissance of a few years back, but much like African tribal music, BG permeates throught America and its folk traditions which filter up to "popular" music.

But obviously I can rant on this all day. So, yay for you!

Everything you say in your comments is thoughtful and wise, and you are completely right about the ludicrous, if not legally insane, hypocrisy involved in this particular scenario (and many, many others).

When I saw the Ann Coulter video that @cockfightbarmitzvah: linked to (in the thread), it blew my mind that she said that on The Today Show and I never heard about it - via the protests of appalled NBC viewers.

The reason that Michael More's comments are not irrelevant is that he has documented many - if not all - of the governmental and political abuses you mentioned in your comment, notably including spearheading the relief effort after Hurricane Katrina when the government did nothing.

It's lunacy of the highest order that the Coulters and Limbaughs and Savages of the world have carte blanche to spew blatant lies and undeserved character assassination ad infinitum while the Michael Moores of the world are under a quantum microscope. But it doesn't serve anything to try to play their game, even in jest, when the right-wing -controlled ridiculously misnomered 'liberal' media are broadcasting what they see fit, through their pre-determined lenses.
